The President's Challenge - I am 13758...

The actual day came yesterday. We prepared for the run, packing extra clothings and sandals and met up at 2:30pm.

Upon reaching Raffles City, we could see a handful of the participants, mostly groups of friends, students, and families gathered around the mall and shopping around while waiting for the right time to walk over. We had a donut each and drown a bottle of 100 plus before making off to the destination. Carbo Loading?! A term I learnt from Baby. Then he loaded himelf with another durian puff, making a mess and smelt like a durian too.

By the time we reached, there were many others already gathered there waiting. We deposited our bag and did some stretching while waiting for the time to come. Baby pinned my no. bib for me and soon after, we lingered around the starting point, with me feeling a little dazed and wondered "why has it not started yet?"

Strangely I was not anxious or excited at all. The run started at 5:15pm. We saw the host Nadia Hutagalung and President Nathan whom extended his hand out in the air and waving while the crowd waved back. I walked and stared at him for a while, wondering if he remembers I never been to his place for deepavali lunch celebration? I guess he would not even remember, with so many impt ppl he met everyday. Then my thoughts tuned back to the event.

While I was ready to spring toward, I was disappointed that most of the ppl are just walking, and it's extremely leisure walk. I was hindered, blocked, stopped by many WALKERS whom have no intention to look over their shoulders and give way to the joggers or those who intend to surpass them.

The pick up only started after about 5mins walk. The whole route started from Padang to Esplanade, along the Marina Street Circuit and back to Padang again. The adrenalin rushed through me and boosted my running spirit, along with the many others who started running too. Baby ran along side by side, keeping a look out for me and giving me his encouragement along the way.

There were young children, serious runners, women in pink (the pink ribbon run), in summary, the nation whom run together side by side, shoulder to shoulder. The runners next to me, in front of me, were my support, pushing me to keep running, just keep running. The cheers from the student helpers along the route do not seem to boost me to pick up my speed at all. All I know is just to maintain and keep running.

The actual distance was a 4.5k route and we managed to complete it in 33mins. It was an amazing feeling to have completed it smoothly without me feeling gasping effortly for breath. I guess I am making improvements! the whole event ended with a blink of an eye and we made way to East Coast to collect his cycling suit before having our dinner and hoping on a bus and taking a train back home.

Next, the GE Women Run. And more to come!

Great job baby! It was the fastest run I had with you and you managed to maintain the pace for most of the route. The way you manoevred yourself through the crowd makes you a seasoned runner already. Form is great as usual. :)

I guess you will enjoy the GE run more, when you going to let the other girls bite the dust. But, humility is a virtue, which you must learn from me. *twitching eyebrows*

Ya, I'll be running faster and further than her. I'd be in Italy when she's still in Singapore on that day. =P
