I have ever painted my house a few times with dad and all we did was to apply the new coat on the existing one. the greatest sense of achievement was to be able to paint our own room and giving the whole house with a new lifted clean look. I like to dyi painting the wall myself but doing Baby's room was the most challenging task especially the priming part.
Filling up the cracks with cement was fun. All you need to do is to fill in the gap with the cement, squeeze the gap with as much cement as possible, before scrappign off the excess and even out the surface. It was fun for me until I opened the can of priming mixture. The pungent smell hit hard on my face that I almost fainted. The mixture was thick and it was filled with strong smell of the dabin oil.
The whole room was filled with the smell and I felt so toxicated. The hardest part was to remove the priming mixture from our bare hands. Because it is made of oil base, we have to remove using thinner. At first, the thinner which was flowing through my bare hands felt like cooling lotion and seeing the paint off from my bare hands was a relief to me, until I felt the burning sensation which felt like hot chillies rubbing against my hands. I complained of the pain as it gets stronger and Baby was so worried that he quickly asked me to run my hands under the tap. The burning sensation lasted for a few mins and gradually faded off. That was when we realised how dangerous it could be if we are ignorant to the proper usage of chemical products. He chased me out from the toliet and clean up the tools himself while I squat outside the toliet watching him.
After the most difficult part was over, we manage to coat the fresh paint (odourless) on the wall and completed it within about half an hour, before we started painting the Audrey Hepburn's picture onto the wall. We mirroed the actual image and traced it onto the wall then edited abit here and there before painting it. We managed to complete the whole painting at about 11pm and all our hardship has paid off quite well with an almost Audrey Hepburn look-a-like painting completely painted on his wall...
Glad he likes it! :)
